STARKVILLE, Miss. – Anthony Piroli, who spent the past three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and coached on Mississippi State’s No. 1 ranked team in 2014, will lead the Bulldogs’ football strength and conditioning program, head coach Joe Moorhead announced on Monday.

“Anthony is a rising star in the profession who knows what it takes to be successful at Mississippi State,” Moorhead said. “A western Pennsylvania native, I have followed him closely during his career. We are happy to bring him back to Starkville in charge of our strength and conditioning program. He has worked at the highest level, trained some of the world’s elite athletes and was a part of one of the greatest teams in Mississippi State history.”

Piroli, who will serve as MSU football’s head strength and conditioning coach, was involved in all facets of the Arizona Cardinals’ strength and conditioning program (2015-17). He worked for legendary NFL strength coach Buddy Morris as an assistant with the Cardinals and as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh earlier in his career.

“I am excited to come back to Mississippi State and lead our strength and conditioning program,” Piroli said. “The 2014 season was one of the most memorable experiences of my career. Mississippi State football has a strong foundation built on a blue-collar work ethic and discipline. My staff and I look forward to evolving the overall physical preparation to the next level and utilizing means and methods with the sole purposes of better transfer to the field and building more resilient student-athletes.”

During his Arizona NFL tenure, Piroli was in charge of sports sciences and player tracking systems. He worked as the performance staff liaison to the nutrition staff and food services during the move to a more health conscious and organic cafeteria.

Piroli is no stranger to Starkville. He spent the 2014 season as the assistant strength and conditioning coach under Rick Court. That year was one of the greatest in school history as State won 10 regular season games for the first time and spent five consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 nationally. The memorable year was capped with the Bulldogs’ first Orange Bowl appearance since 1941.

Piroli was the co-owner and Director of Sports Performance at Evolution Sports Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa., from 2011-14, working with athletes and coaches at all levels to design and implement strength, speed, flexibility and conditioning programs.

The Aliquippa, Pa., native began his coaching career at his alma mater, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in 2007 as the strength and conditioning coach for the football team. He then worked as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh for two seasons (2008-09) before working at Power Train Sports Institute in Pittsburgh as a sports performance coach for two years (2009-11). Piroli also served as a volunteer strength coach with Ohio State’s football team in the summer of 2013.

He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2007 and earned his master’s degree in exercise science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009.

Piroli is accredited as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC). He is married to the former Justine Snyder.
