Following practice on Wednesday, members of the media had the chance to speak with coach Matt Brock, S Marcus Murphy, and DL Kobe Jones.

Brock said that both Wheat and Davis have done a good job picking up the system. Mentioned that both their skillsets are physical kids, and they also have the twitchiness and athleticism

Brock also said that Tyrus did a really good job adjusting from an ILB position, natural pass-rushing ability 260 something pounds add those together a pretty nice combination

Brock said that from the special teams standpoint, they do have experience, but he has been really pleased by the youth. Legitimate battles at every position. Competition brings the best out of everyone of them. He said that in terms of the returners, no one has pulled away yet, got to work on that the next couple of weeks.

Very pleased with Hayes Hammond. He's done a very good job.

Coach Leach's philosophy. We are going to have starters playing on special teams. Going to be the guy that can execute the position the best. Can't lose a game in the third phase.

Consistency is the biggest factor. Will be able to narrow it down to three after the first scrimmage this weekend, then from the

Brock said on freshman Jamari Stewart that he had played only on the ball in HS, so he hadn't dropped into coverage. Pleased with him picking up that, and growth since getting here.

Brule plays with his hair on fire on a daily basis. Doesn't matter if it is defense or sp. teams.

Murphy said that he's been coming into every rep with a chip on his shoulder. Murphy specifically mentioned Emmanuel Forbes as someone that has really stepped up.

Murphy said that with his family situation, he's had to take some extra precautions. Said that he is still learning how to be more careful, and take better care of himself.

He said that Costello when he first came in, he established the fact that he is going to be a great leader for the offensive guys,. He dropping dimes here and there.

Murphy said that he is looking forward to watching him throw the ball around the field this season

Specifically mentioned Dylan Lawrence and JP Purvis, getting experience, and being able to slide in for him, Fred, and Collin.

Murphy feels that playing QB in high school has helped him greatly in the transition from offense to defense. Said that he knows the way a QB would think when a play is the way it is, and uses that to his advantage.

Receivers that have impressed Murphy so far are Payton, Mitchell, Heath, and then the younger guys show flashes. Spurrier Jr. is doing a great job, they keep getting better on a daily basis.

Kobe said that in terms of depth at the position, Jack Harris, Aaron Odom, Jevon Banks is coming on. It has been a process, but we have been making improvements daily.

Kobe said that AO has matured a lot mentally. Understands what is in-front of him with another year under his belt. He's taken the vet role.

Kobe said that he thinks that Charles Cross is the ultimate competitor. Says he has great upside, and is excited to see him play against competition this season.

Kobe said that Coach Hughes has been a great presence with recent times. Advice, mentorship, and just to give us another perspective. He is a great, God-fearing man.

Kobe said that the march made the team stronger. It was a moment when the team was one. Said it was a special moment.

Kobe said that KJ Costello comes to work everyday. Is very vocal when he has to be. Said that he thinks he is a great QB, but he does not want to compare him to any of the others.

Kobe said that when you see Will Rogers on the offensive side of the ball, he's got the demeanor of your prototypical QB 1 Absolute dog. Absolute competitor. Finished up the night by saying that Rogers is always going to give you everything he's got.
