He made his decision known on Wednesday via social media. This one isn’t a surprise. Russell hadn’t been a part of the team this spring and wasn't included on the roster after only playing 19 snaps (all in the season opener against Eastern Kentucky) with this new coaching staff in 2024. A drastic decrease from his 164 snaps in 2023 where he accumulated 15 pressures, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Mississippi State’s staff expects you to do your part, both on and off the field. Sometimes, guys don’t uphold their end of the bargain. Russell has obvious pass-rushing talent despite his lean frame, and the Bulldogs could’ve used his ability to get after the quarterback last season when they finished No. 132 out of 133 schools in sacks. And yet, Russell couldn’t get back onto the field. That should tell us everything we need to know.
