Thursday was an interesting, telling day for Mississippi State and their efforts for the 2021 class.

Early this morning, (I'm talking before CFA starts serving breakfast early) things began to shift in the recruitment of Byron Turner.

Turner's high school coach was pumped when Turner gave him the news recently. Turner chose the Seminoles over several schools, with Mississippi State being one of them.

The decision came as a shock to many. Usually these type of shock commitments don't stick, but Byron is a different kind of kid, so it will be interesting to see how things play out.

I don't anticipate the coaching staff giving up on him.

I do, however, anticipate new offers to continue to come at the position, and for the priority feel of in-state target Ty Cooper will soon reach new heights.

One of those new offers was sent out today. Ga. DE Jibran Hawkins spoke with both coach (Darcel) McBath as well as coach (Jeff) Phelps when receiving the news of the offer.

Hawkins has a tentative decision date set for July 31st, but I would be surprised if that comes to fruition given the upward trajectory of his recruitment.

Mississippi State will have a chance to gain ground in his recruitment, particularly if he doesn't follow through with that July 31st date.

The offer earlier this week to Tre'Von Marshall becomes more important now as well, and while it has been almost a known fact that Calif. DL Nick Dimitris is not currently a take, that may change as well.

Looking back on the last 20ish hours in the Lofton recruitment, it was a bit of a roller coaster. When he first hit "tweet" and announced that he had some news to drop at "2pm tomorrow" many, myself included, thought that would be to the Bulldogs, and that his decision was set to be the start of a run of commitments.

As the night continued on, it became clearer and clearer that the Bulldogs were not going to be the choice, to the point that I went and retracted my FutureCast for him, the first to do so to my knowledge.

I was told that the connections his HS coach has with Fuente became a factor instead of just an advantage, and the Hokies were going to be the choice.

This is far from devastating for the staff, but for a fanbase that has endured offenses led by Dan Mullen and Joe Moorhead in recent history, they are not used to having so many wide receivers on the board.

The Lofton news makes the recruitment of Malik Nabers even more important, and after talking to some sources there, things continue to be trending towards the (maroon) Bulldogs as he heads into the final weeks of his recruitment.

A future offense with four-stars Teddy Knox and Malik Nabers, as well as four-star QB Sawyer Robertson, has to be something that the fanbase have spent quite a bit of time visualizing.
