STARKVILLE – Mississippi State senior wide receiver Austin Williams has been selected as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments, and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
The William V. Campbell Trophy is college football's premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
As a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, Williams will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and will be honored at the 64th Annual NFF Awards Dinner in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Williams is currently working toward his third degree from Mississippi State and is the only finalist who has posted a 4.0 GPA every year of his college career.
He is a two-time First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American (2021-22) and was chosen as the 2021-22 SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the highest honor an SEC athlete can earn in any sport. Williams was selected among 14 male student-athletes from any sport, one from each SEC institution.
In 2021, Williams was named a NFF Campbell Trophy Semifinalist and also earned the Carol V. Newsom Award as the MSU Student-Athlete of the Year in 2019-20.
Williams graduated summa cum laude in 2020 and carries a 4.0 GPA in both undergraduate and graduate course work. He is a five-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was named a Stephen D. Lee Scholar, the highest academic honor at MSU awarded for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout undergraduate coursework.
He is currently working on his third degree at MSU, a master's in workforce education leadership.
Williams and the Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, against Auburn at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
