Dan Mullen wound up on the same staff as Urban Meyer at Notre Dame in the late 90s. He then followed Meyer as he became a head coach and was a part of success at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida. By being connected to Meyer, Mullen became one of the top coaching priorities in the country. He was eventually hired by Mississippi State and has the Bulldogs in the national spotlight. He's a brilliant offensive mind that has helped tutor multiple Heisman trophy contenders.
Bottom line: Mullen is a desirable coach that has spent some time in the Pac-12 region. He's highly paid but USC should be able to outspend the Bulldogs if Mullen became the Trojans' top choice.
