STARKVILLE, Miss. – Coming off the winningest two-year stretch in program history, Mississippi State football hits the field for the first of 15 spring workouts beginning at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex.

All outdoor spring practices are open to the public. A complete spring schedule is below and times are subject to change. In the event of inclement weather, MSU will practice indoors at the Palmeiro Center and those workouts will be closed to the public due to space limitations.

NCAA rules permit teams to go through 15 spring practice sessions. The Bulldogs will scrimmage twice (April 2 and 9) as part of the spring workouts. It then culminates with the Maroon and White Spring Game on Saturday, April 16 as part of Super Bulldog Weekend presented by Regions. Kickoff for the free admission contest is 11 a.m. in Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.

Head coach Dan Mullen enters his eighth season at the helm. He’s guided the Bulldogs into unprecedented territory, including back-to-back seasons of at least nine victories for the first time in school history. A nine-win 2015 campaign was capped with a Belk Bowl victory over NC State in December.

A total of 43 letterwinners are back from that squad highlighted by six returning offensive starters and seven returning defensive starters. All-Southeastern Conference wide receiver Fred Ross, the league’s leader in receptions per game, enters his senior year after tallying a school-record 88 catches for 1,007 yards and five touchdowns last fall.

Defensively, MSU welcomes back 69.7 percent of its tackle production from 2015 led by senior linebacker Richie Brown, defensive end A.J. Jefferson and sophomore safety Brandon Bryant. Brown is the first 100-tackle player to return the following year for the Bulldogs since NFL standout Benardrick McKinney did so in 2013. MSU broke the school record for tackles for losses a year ago (98) led by Jefferson’s 13.5 and Brown’s 13.

Several new faces will make their MSU debuts on the field Wednesday. Peter Sirmon, who spent the 2015 season at Southern Cal, takes over defensive coordinator duties in addition to his role as linebackers coach. Other new coaches include: cornerbacks coach Terrell Buckley, defensive line coach Brian Baker and safeties coach Maurice Linguist.

January enrollees defensive lineman Tre Brown, defensive back Lashard Durr, wide receiver Dontea Jones, defensive back C.J. Morgan and tight end Christian Roberson will all go through spring workouts.

Wednesday’s practice calls for helmets and shorts. The Bulldogs then take spring break off next week before resuming practice on Tuesday, March 22.
