Week Two - Saturday – SEC 2016
Nicholls State Colonels (34.5pt DOG) @ #9 Georgia Bulldogs….
So far it looks like Coach Kirby Smart, was a “smart” move for Georgia…Last weekend the Bulldogs bite down on North Carolina’s big ole foot. Uga had tar and slobber dripping from his mouth after he finally let loose of that Tar Heel foot. One Dawg that wouldn’t heel was RB Nick Chubb. Any questions about his knee or his mental state were answered with a 222 yd rushing night and 2 TDs. As far the Nicholls State goes; they are a D-1AA school in the Southland Conference. The Colonels are in a weak conf. and they’re picked to finish last. This will be their first game of the season for the Colonels. I expect the Georgia Bulldogs to convert Nicholls State to Pennys State by halftime and pocket the change for the second half!!! This week the Dawgs just need to do a tune up and set the team on cruise control so they can motor past the Colonels……Dawgs win and cover 35-0!!!
Prairie View A&M PV Panthers (34.5pt DOG) @ #20 Texas A&M Aggies….
Looks like the Aggies are locked and loaded again this year. Weapons of choice: the AK (Aggies & Knight), the SKS (Speedy, Kirk & Seals (Jones) and the AR-15 (Armani, Reynolds & #15 Myles Garrett!!!) Future NFL 1st round draft pick, DE Myles Garrett was back to hunting down QBs with 1 ½ sacks along with several “hurry-ups”. He stayed in UCLA’s QB Josh Rosen’s face all night------------for 3.5 quarters!!! And then, UCLA took advantage. The Aggies survived and picked up a quality OT win. Offensively, the Aggie faithful have to feel better about the QB situation at College Station. QB Trevor managed the game and got the win. This week won’t be a test, in fact, it’ll be a rest. The Panthers of Prairie View will pick up a big pay check for playing the Aggies of A&M but they’ll also pick up a big lost in the process. Aggies win and cover 45-10!!!
Kentucky Wildcats (17pt DOG) @ #25 Florida Gators….
You ever noticed those “Beware of Gators” signs posted around rivers & lakes??? Well, there’s a reason. If you decide to stick your toe in the water; be prepared to start shopping for cleats two sizes smaller!!! The Gators defense only allowed the Minutemen of UMASS a total of 187yards last weekend. The number that impressed me the most last weekend was the Gators 3rd down conversion ratio. The Minutemen were only able to convert one 3rd down all day last Saturday. Offensively, the Gators were less than spectacular but QB Luke Del Rio was able to manage the game without turnovers which enabled the Gators to be able to win in the fourth quarter. On the other side of the field, the Wildcats opened up the season with Southern Miss. The Wildcats jumped out like they had a red hot poker stuck up their rear. They were mad and on fire!!! Kentucky went into halftime with a 35-17 lead over Southern Miss only to get shut out in the second half and then have 27 unanswered points hung on them. For those of you that didn’t major in math; they lost to Southern Miss 44-35!!!This week Kentucky won’t have to worry about scoring a touchdown at all………...The Gators win but do not cover 24-9!!!
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (28.5pt DOG) @ #1 Alabama Crimson Tide….
Heyyyy Southern California, Welcome to “LA”------A”LA”BAMA!!!.....ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! Any questions??? It’s obviously at this point that the “year-in, year-out” QB problem at Alabama isn’t really a problem. Southern California got an English class and an American History class all “ROLLED” up into one Saturday night. From English, they learned you can now use the verb “HURTS” like a noun when the noun scores 4 TDs!!!! And from American History, they learned about “Paul Revere” when Freshmen QB Jalen Hurts hung 4 TDs on the Trojans-----Two if by Land and Two if by Air!!! Onto Western Kentucky; the Hilltoppers were C-USA champions last year but lost their QB Brandon Doughty to graduation which is now playing in the NFL. The Hilltoppers are positioned to compete for the C-USA Championship title again this year but they will only be a shell of the team they were last year………Bama rolls and covers 49-17!!!
Wofford Terriers (34.5pt DOG) @ #19 Ole Miss Rebels….
Monday night’s game featuring the Seminoles of Florida State vs. the Rebels of Ole Miss reminds me about another team of Rebels fighting some Indians that didn’t turn out too good either. Anyone remember General Custer’s last stand at the battle of “Little Big Horn”??? Yeaaa, he was a Rebel too!!! In the first half the Rebels came out with guns a blazin’-------Hugh Freeze a praisin’!!! The Rebel defense seem invincible as they burst through the gaps; but later found themselves feeling for their scalps!!! This team went for “High-top” to “Flat-top” in just over one quarter of play. 33 unanswered points!!! As far as the Wofford Terriers goes; they won their season opener against Tenn. Tech but that dreamy undefeated season will probably be short lived. The Rebels will take out their frustrations this weekend on the Terriers!!! Just FYI, Wofford’s mascot, the Terrier; yeaaa, he looks a lot like a small Bulldog!!! So, the Rebels probably won’t be going too easy on Wofford this weekend….Rebels win and cover 52-10!!!
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (5.5pt DOG) @ Vanderbilt Commodores….
Vanderbilt shutout South Carolina in the first half last weekend. But, they ended up getting shutout themselves in the second half. Basically VANDY pulled a VANDY in VANDY, and it was less than DANDY when a pretty HANDY kicker from SC knocked one thru that was “Sweet as CANDY” from 45 yards!!!! Everything is not Dandy in Vandy!!! If Head Coach Derek Mason doesn’t turn it around this weekend hosting the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee; the Commodores will be lucky to win 3 games this year. Offensively, if Vanderbilt can’t establish the run with RB Ralph Webb and Khari Blassingame; they are doomed. On the other side field, the Blue Raiders blew up Alabama A&M in their season opener 55-0. They have offensive weapons galore but none bigger than QB Brent Stockwell. He’s re-writing the record books at Middle Tennessee and he’s only a sophomore. As a freshman last year, he threw for 4,005 yards. That’s just 53yards shy of breaking Jameis Winston’s NCAA freshman passing record (4,057). As a Davey O’Brien Watch list candidate, you can rest assure he’s going to light up the score board. The problem with this Blue Raiders team isn’t the offense, it’s the defense!!! This defense couldn’t slow down a three legged drunken turtle stuck in 1st gear back sliding on an icy hill. Last week’s shutout was more about how bad Alabama A&M’s offense was vs. how good Middle Tennessee’s defense is!!!! Expect Vandy to score----just not enough!!!!!…Blue Raiders win and pocket the point 27-24!!!
South Carolina Gamecocks (7pt DOG) @ Mississippi State Bulldogs….
Never understood why dogs like to eat cat poo………But, last week, Bully got himself a big ole plate of Jaguar poo and went to town!!! Can somebody please throw Bully a tic tac??? PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSE!!! Dang Bully, your breath is so bad; people look forward to your farts!!! That’s what I call ruff-ruff bref!!!! Just for the record, Miss State didn’t lose to South Alabama because of a missed FG by Westin Graves. Welllll, technically they did….lolll. They lost because they mentally they never returned from halftime. It turns out the Jaguars were unrated and the Bulldogs were overrated--------------and underprepared!!! Defensively what we saw last Saturday was a direct result of losing your two starting cornerbacks right before the season started.(Cleveland and Jiles) The secondary is young, inexperience. There is no easy fix for this. The Bulldogs will struggle all season to defend the pass. The secondary is thin, the defensive coordinator position is unstable plus the Bulldogs will have to blitz practical every play to try and cover up the deficiencies. Where’s Joe Lee Dunn when you need him??? As far as the Gamecocks goes; they went to Vandy as an underdog and prevailed; thanks mainly to two freshmen and two seniors. Senior QB Perry Orth, Freshmen RB Turner and WR Edwards proved to be the winning combo in Nashville last week but it was Senior PK Elliott Fry who stole the show. This Carolina offense doesn’t have to be great to win games this year. They just have to get into field goal range and play great defense-----which they will with head coach Will “MustyChimp” at the helm. This game will come down to a FG but it won’t be Elliot Fry that’s being carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates. It’ll be Bulldogs PK Westin Graves. The Gamecocks still have major problems fix but I think it’s the “toll of the road” that gets them. It’s hard to win on the road but it’s even harder to win on the road when it’s an SEC opponent especially when you have to do it back to back……Bulldogs win but do not cover 27-24!!!
