Week Eight - Saturday – SEC 2016

Massachusetts Minutemen (20.5pt DOG) @ South Carolina Gamecocks….
No Gamecock in Columbia is feeling too cocky these days; including Cocky!!! The only team mascot feeling less cocky than Cocky is the Minuteman from UMass. They’re on a 4 game losing streak heading into hostile SEC territory this weekend. Stopping that losing skid doesn’t look good this weekend for the Minutemen. The Gamecocks are on a bit of a losing streak themselves. They’re sitting on 3 “In-A-Row”. Despite those last three losses; there’s hope abound to be found in Columbia. As the defense begins to gel there appears to be sunshine peaking through mountains of adversity for this Gamecock team. The most impressive (unexpected) performance on defense has been the play of DL Darius English. Coach MustyChimp has been able to raise his level of play even without hopes of the offense even scoring. This commitment to shutting out opposing teams has raised the level of play for the entire Gamecock defense. And one thing we should’ve all learned last week watching Vandy was; if you play lights out on defense, your team will always have a chance to win. I think the Gamecock’s defense will deliver this coming Saturday and give their struggling offense plenty of short field opportunities to be able to put up some points against this deflated UMASS team. Gamecocks win but do not cover 31-17!!!

#6 Texas A&M Aggies (19.5pt DOG) @ #1 Alabama Crimson Tide….
That big ole elephant in Tuscaloosa can’t wait to wrap its powerful trunk around the neck of this Aggie football team and just shake the “A&M” right off!!! Aggies Coach Kevin Sumlin shouldn’t have worked late this week game planning for this Alabama team. The only team capable of beating Alabama right now is Alabama. And even then, it would be hard to do since Coach Dick Satan would be right there with his trusty pitchfork ready to poke you in the butt if you even thought of slowing down. The only unknown variable in this game is; can the Aggies bookends, Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall, force enough turnovers. They will have to strip sack Bama QB Jalen Hurts at least 4 times in this game for the Aggies to have a shot. Both of these “Soon-to-be first round draft pick” players are elite and very capable of producing these turnovers; even against this Alabama offense. But that’s a tall order even for these two. Don’t be surprised if this Aggie offense starts fast and gets out quick on Bama defense. They might even build up a halftime lead and then try protecting it with a “Castle & Moat”!!! (Garrett & Hall) But just as sure as the Tide goes out, it always comes back in; and when it does, it always washes away the sandcastles that you just built!!!.....Bama rolls but does not cover 45-28!!!

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (6.5pt DOG) @ Missouri Tigers….
It’s Missouri, its Middle Tennessee. Expect this Mizzou team to bounce back after getting mauled by a Bayou Bengal from Baton Rouge and “Chewed Up & Spit Out” by a Gator from Gainesville the last two games. The Tigers of Missouri are back at home this week and should get a chance to really open up their offense on this Blue Raiders team. If you like high scoring passing games with no defense then you will absolutely love this game. With dueling QB play from Blue Raiders QB Brent Stockstill and Tigers QB Drew Luck; you could see over a 1,000 combined yards in this game……..Tigers win and cover 42-35!!!

#17 Arkansas Razorbacks (10pt DOG) @ #21 Auburn Tigers….
Anyone watch the Arkansas-Ole Miss game last week??? No???....Ok, here’s the game summary:
Hawgs chasin’ Chad up a tree, C-U-SS-I-N-G
First comes pass…..……then comes run…….then comes Bret with his big ole buns.
Gatorade bath…..……..wetting his pants…..making him do, the hula-hoop dance!!!
Coach Gus Malzahn, if you wish to avoid being part of a playground song next week then you better not let this “bye week” you just had suck the life out of your team. Every SEC team that has had a “bye week” this year has lost their returning game…….Case in point: Miss St, Missouri and Mississippi!!!! Four teams are coming off a bye this week: Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina and Texas A&M. I have only picked two of the four to win this week. SOooooo, Are you one of the lucky ones??? The Hawgs are solid on defense. Offensively the Hawgs feature two very talented players, QB Austin Allen and RB Rawleigh Williams, but they have an arsenal of weapons that can catch and run. One the other side of the field, this Tiger offense probably isn’t has shiny as this Hawg’s offense but they have leadership at QB and balance. And when you couple that with this Auburn defense; you got chemistry. And that my friend is why this Auburn team will continue to win……Tigers win but do not cover 35-28!!!

Mississippi State Bulldogs (3pt FAV) @ Kentucky Wildcats….
Bully is gonna get a bad case of jet lag before the week is over; flying to Provo, UT last Friday night for a late game in the Mountain Time Zone to flying to Lexington, KY for another late game in the Central Time Zone. Bully might be confused by the time he shows up in Kentucky. I can see it now, in one paw he’s holding The Book of Mormon and in the other paw a fifth of Kentucky’s finest bourbon known to mankind------Old Crow!!!....lollll….If Bully has the stomach to down a fifth of that; he’ll be converting Wildcats to Bulldogs and baptizing cheerleaders by halftime. Hopefully the Milk-Bones will sober him up before the second half begins which leads me to this point. I expect the Bulldogs to come into this game with a slight hangover from the lost at BYU. One positive takeaway from last week’s performance was that this Bulldog defense played inspired and kept the Bulldogs in the game. Coach Mullen did have this team ready to play but the deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball continue to limit this team’s progression. On average, this Bulldog defense is gonna give up about 4 TDs/game so the offense must produce at least 30pts/game for this team to have a chance in winning. The strength of this Wildcat team is the running game. This Wildcat team has run both HOT and COLD at times this year but play especially well at home. Coach Mark Stoops needed a bye last weekend in order to get some players back healthy but more importantly he needed more time to get ready for this Miss State football team. This game is an absolute must “WIN” for this Wildcat team if they have any thoughts of of becoming bowl eligible for the first time since 2011. Bottom-line: the Kentucky defense on average is giving up over 31pts/game so I think this is a good matchup for the Bulldogs. Thus, the Bulldog’s offense will be able to move the ball and have success against this Kentucky defense…Bulldogs win and cover 31-27!!!

Tennessee State Tigers (34.5pt DOG) @ Vanderbilt Commodores….
Well that ship set sail from Athens last weekend with the Commodores coming out victorious in their high seas battle with the Dawgs of Georgia. That was a great win for Coach (and Commander) Derek Mason and his shipmates. It’s abundantly clear that this Vanderbilt team will play defense regardless if the offense shows up or not. Think how inspired this defense would play if the offense could ever generate a lead for them. Well, this week, you will get to see all cannons firing on both sides of the ship all at the same time on this battle tested ship from Nashville. This should be an impressive and decisive victory for the Commodores…Commodores win but do not cover 38-10!!!

#23 Ole Miss Rebels (6.5pt DOG) @ #25 LSU Tigers….
LSU went from LS----WHOOOOO??? to LS----BOOOOOO!!!; and was quickly becoming LS----PHEWWWW! It was quite obvious that LSU was losing its GLUE so they had to give the SHOE; to YOU know WHO!!! Enters Coach “O” with a brand new VIEW; immediately, optimism starts to SPEW!!!! This CREW had been pacing like a Tiger at the ZOO, and now is ready, to bite-n-CHEW!!!............One thing these Tigers forgot to DO; is to find an answer to Chad and HUGH!!! Rebels win and pocket the points 31-28!!!
