STARKVILLE – Following a thrilling 23-9 victory against No. 8 Auburn, Mississippi State football returned to the Associated Press Top 25 poll coming in at No. 24 on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (4-2, 1-2) are receiving votes in the Amway Coaches poll. State earned 136 points in the AP Top 25 and is one of seven SEC teams in the poll, joining top-ranked Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, No. 13 LSU, No. 14 Florida, No. 18 Kentucky and No. 21 Auburn.

MSU is ranked for the 13th time in 14 weeks dating back to last season. Saturday’s physically dominating performance against Auburn was the Bulldogs’ largest margin of victory over a Top 10 team since beating the Tigers, 38-23, on Oct. 11, 2014, a game that catapulted MSU to its first No. 1 ranking. Since that memorable season, MSU has produced five victories over Top 10 teams. That mark is tied for second in the SEC.

The Bulldogs’ open date is Oct. 13, and they will have two weeks to prepare for No. 13/12 LSU on Oct. 20 in Baton Rouge.
