STARKVILLE, Miss. – Four Mississippi State football players were named to the 2015 Southeastern Conference Media Days Preseason All-SEC Team, the league announced Friday.

Senior quarterback Dak Prescott was voted first team by the media after a 2014 season which saw him become one of two FBS players in the last seven seasons to average 265 yards passing and 75 rushing per game in a season (Johnny Manziel, 2012). Prescott joined Heisman Trophy winners Tim Tebow (2007 and 2008), Cam Newton (2010) and Manziel (2012) as the only signal callers in the SEC since 2000 to throw for 25 touchdowns and rush for 10 scores in a single season.

Earlier Friday, the Haughton, Louisiana, native was also named to the 2015 Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List. A preseason All-American choice by Athlon Sports (second team) and Phil Steele (third team), Prescott is also on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and the Wuerffel Trophy. A two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and college graduate, Prescott enters September’s season opener at Southern Miss nine rushing touchdowns shy of joining Tebow as the only two SEC players in history to rush for 40 touchdowns and throw for 40 touchdowns in a career.

Earning second-team offensive honors was junior wide receiver De’Runnya Wilson. The Birmingham, Alabama, native tied for fourth in the league last fall with nine touchdowns, hauling in 47 passes for 680 yards. Wilson reached the end zone six times in six games against ranked opponents, averaging 91.3 receiving yards per game in those contests.

Senior defensive back Will Redmond and junior defensive lineman Chris Jones were selected to the defensive second team. Earlier this month, both men were named National Defensive Player of the Year candidates thanks to their inclusion on the watch lists for both the Bednarik Award and the Nagurski Trophy.

Redmond earned his way on the team after a 2014 which saw him tally 51 tackles with 3.0 tackles for loss and three interceptions. Earlier this summer, the Memphis, Tennessee native was named the top senior defensive back in the country by Mel Kiper Jr., as well as a preseason All-American by Phil Steele.

Jones, a preseason All-American by Sporting News and Phil Steele, joined Redmond on the second team after collecting 26 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss last fall. The Houston, Mississippi, native is also on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, presented to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman.
