STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State senior quarterback Dak Prescott was one of 30 signal callers nationally named to the Manning Award watch list, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Thursday. The award is the only national quarterback award which includes candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.

Prescott was a finalist for the 2014 award after becoming one of two FBS players in the last seven years to average 265 yards passing and 75 rushing per game in a season (Johnny Manziel, 2012). Prescott joined Heisman Trophy winners Tim Tebow (2007 and 2008), Cam Newton (2010) and Manziel (2012) as the only signal callers in the SEC since 2000 to throw for 25 touchdowns and rush for 10 scores in a single season. With 10 rushing and 10 passing touchdowns this fall, he can join Tebow and Colin Kaepernick as the only FBS quarterbacks the last 20 years with 10 passing and rushing touchdowns in three straight seasons.

The Haughton, Louisiana, native also appears on watch lists for the 2015 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien Award and the Wuerffel Trophy. Earlier this summer, Prescott was named a preseason All-American choice by Athlon Sports (second team) and Phil Steele (third team). The quarterback enters September’s season opener at Southern Miss nine rushing touchdowns shy of joining Tebow as the only two SEC players in history to rush for 40 touchdowns and throw for 40 touchdowns in a career.
